Intervention of the Postreiter in Basel. This project proposes a consolidation, further development and reinterpretation of the existing connections inside and outside the building, freeing it of rigidity - the reason why the current persons in charge decided to deconstruct it.

We follow the idea of a working environment that does not see itself as closed but opens towards the city and becomes part of it. The Postreiter breaks free from the static control and obligation of efficiency of the late Modern.

For Miguel Sicart, play is the humanistic way to understand what makes us human. It is not opposed to work or reality because it is part of it all.
Being a caricature of real-world cities, the game SimCity can tell us a lot about ourselves. It conveys the feeling of total freedom; one can build their own dream city. But looking more closely to the mechanics of the game, one can only build a successful city and the in-game success is determined by algorithms packed in a so-called Black Box.
The inside of the black Box is unchangeable and secret, the game is about coping with the consequences of its output. Real urban design needs to cope with a similar Black Box. What if we were able to manipulate the Black Box itself?

Basel with an altered Black Box; visualization of Google Maps fragments in Blender.
Intervention of the Postreiter in Basel right at the SBB railway station. We focused on the task of connecting different neighborhoods in Basel and freeing this building of rigidity that convinced the current builders in charge of tearing away the whole construction to make place for something completely new.

This project proposes a consolidation, further development and reinterpretation of the existing connections.

We follow the idea of a working environment that does not see itself as closed but opens towards the city and becomes part of it. The Postreiter breaks free from the static control and obligation of efficiency of the late Modern.
